General Description: Set in three acres of paddy filelds, gardens and forest with wonderful views of the himalayan mountains bordering tibet, bamboo retreat is a quiet and interesting mountain retreat to base yourself during your visit to sikkim.The star of the show is a wonderfully genuine top floor meditation room, complete with traditional buddhist altar and glass windows looking out to mountains. A perfect place for your own yoga or meditation practice, or an introduction to meditation can be arranged. There's also a exclusive room for herbal baths soak in single infused with cytronella-grass from the garden, lit by candle bright and with a tranquil herbal tea. Workshops available on invite include basket weaving, cooking and tibetan mandala painting with a thangka master. Mountainbikes are for rent at the retreat and you can plan some inspirational treks or mountain bike rides in the surrounding area. Visits to local buddhist monasteries rumtek and ranka lingdum with expert guides can be arranged. And there's a library with a good selection of books and videos on the himalayas. The prime house is a big stone building built on the principals of feng shui. All ten rooms are painted a different color and conceal the four elements root yourself interior the green room or booster your energy sleeping in red. contemporary lamps sit atop locally made bamboo tables, beds are raised futons and all rooms possess en suite bathrooms and iron balconies with enriching mountain views. Meals are served buffet-style interior the marbled dining area or on the terrace, using ingredients from the organic herb and vegetable garden. There's locally sourced poultry wherever possible, and sikkimese, tibetan, swiss and indian dishes are all available, as well a home made pizza cooked in the wood-fired pizza oven flown in from europe. Locally produced items including bamboo handicrafts can be bought from the little shop.
